Project 5 complete

A blog update for you all!! Three beautiful blankets complete and already with their new owners. Thankyou once again for your wonderful contributions, so many amazing squares!! Special mention must be made to the ladies who put extra work in; all those who turned up for the joining evenings as well as Johanna and Julie for working on borders. We'd also like to thank Natalie for creating such special poems that we could send along with these blankets to our recipients. I've added them for you below, I'm sure you will appreciate them as much as we do!

So now here are a collection of images of the process, and the finished blankets, hope you enjoy!

My 2 little supervisors making sure everything is done properly during the arranging of the squares

The 'classic' blanket, arranged with the large squares in the centre, and bordered by the smaller granny squares.

The 'spice' blanket, alternating rows of grannies and large squares

the 'hot chilli' blanket, each large square separated by grannies.

once the border was put on, the blankets had a good wash and block to get them looking square

This one even got a road test!

All 3 of them together!

boxed and ready to go.

The poem that accompanies our blankets:

Squares with Prayers

Crochet hooks;
soft, soft  yarn;
hands that dance and weave,
forming  squares of harmony –
for you.
Prayerful hearts;
heartfelt sighs;
mouths that pray and plead,
calling out to God in unity –
for you.
Just as this blanket can be wrapped around you
So, too, our prayers surround you…
and so, too, God’s warm embrace,
God’s loving arms,
God’s everlasting arms,
will encompass you,
hold you,
comfort you…
and never let you go!

As well as a poem written specifically for the recipients of these 3 blankets.

At a time like this,
when empty places leave a huge, gaping hole,
and the raw pain of loss tears at your soul…
our words fail,
but God’s stand forever (Isaiah 40:8);
our love fails,
but His fails you never (Rom 8:39).

And so we  pray…

…that when the tears are endless
and your hearts and minds ache,
you’ll know your Father loves you, (Psalm 103:13)
completely, for Christ’s sake.

…that when you’re broken and empty,
and overtaken by grief,
He will never forsake you (Hebrews 13:5)
but will grant you relief.

… that through the turmoil and questions,
through the sorrow and pain,
He’ll quiet you with his love (Zeph 3:17)
again and again.

Blanket update

Hello all
Just a quick update on a number of items.
The blankets for Robyn, Drew and Tiffany have been delivered and by all accounts have been well received. Emma will be posting some pictures of the finished blankets when her internet is fixed.
We are planning to do one more blanket this year so look out for an email in your inbox soon with more information. This time Emma is taking a well earned break from the organising side so Rose and myself (Sandra) will be organising this blanket.
Regards
Sandra
P.S. Here are two of the logos I have been working on. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Squares galore

Here are a few more images for you to enjoy. We are planning our first evening of joining for tomorrow night, we are quite certain we will have all the squares in, arranged and ready to join! The last 3 pictures in this post are the arrangement that we plan to use, although the square placements may change slightly with the arrival of the last few squares, it will give you an idea of how the finished products will look. We called upon some inside help, an Aunty of the intended recipients, who has helped us make the decision of which blanket will go to who. So that is exciting progress too, this will help us in deciding what style border to make for each blanket- as to personalise them the more.

So without further ado, here are the pictures!

From Natasha, Ellen, Sue, Henrietta and Lisa

From Rhonda, Shania, Emma, Rose and Evelyn

The 3 separate themes and arrangement below!

That's all for now!

Incoming Squares

I have so many lovely squares in my possession, its really special to see them all, knowing that each one comes covered with love and accompanied with your prayers for our intended recipients!

Once again, I have not taken individual shots of each contribution, but I have added the names of the contributors below each picture.
From Sara, Anita, Heidi, Cheronne, Sharelle, Liz P, Julie and Denise.

From Sjaan

From Bec, Anita, and Jemma

From Liz B, Sara, Alisha and Emma

And I cannot resist showing you all some pictures of the arrangements that I have been playing with. Although it may be considered very premature and the end results may not look anything like these pictures below, I know you will appreciate how these three separate 'colour themes' can be created out of the one colour palette. Amazing isn't it??
Consisting of more muted tones of beige, reds and mustard, Ive dubbed this collection 'The Spice Mix'
This looks fantastic in my house- just saying! :D

I adore this brighter collection- nicknamed 'Hot Chilli' :D
I know of at least 2 more large squares coming that will fit into this 'theme'
It makes me smile just looking at it!

And this one I've called 'The Classic' consisting of stunning patterns in orange, reds, greys and whites. It has a sophisticated feel to it, and once again I love it!

But for now we will wait a little longer, just to get the last few contributions in, and then we can get serious with the arrangements!
We will be needing quite a lot of help when it comes to the joining stage, please, if you are interested in participating in this part of the project, let us know! The more the merrier.

That is all for now!

The beginnings of project #6

Welcome to our newest project! We have squares coming in already, beautiful vibrant colours and interesting patterns!
Due to the size of this project I have not taken individual pictures of all the incoming squares. Instead I've had the joy of mixing them all up together and taking a picture like that.

Below are squares from
Sandra, Yvonne, Johanna, Trudy, Natalie, Riek, Margaret and Emma.

I hope you love the colours as much as I do!
Its looking a bit bolder and brighter than I had imagined, but I think its a good thing! :D

Finished project #5

Here are pictures of the latest completed blanket for you all to enjoy!
Such a lovely combination of colours and patterns, I think the white edging really sets it off nicely!

Thankyou again to everyone who partook of this project, both making squares and joining as well!

More contributions

With the blanket already completed I have realised there were still a collection of contributions that I had not uploaded here to the blog. So here they are, thanks so much to everyone who partook and supplied all these amazing squares.

Project #5

Welcome to another Squares with Prayers project!! This is such an exciting one with a different palette than the others, its warm, spicy and fun!

Today is actually the due date for the squares. I'm still waiting on a few more to come (as well as darning in my own!) But I know we are all busy, and this not a huge issue.

With the very limited light today, I took a picture of all the squares that have made their way to me already. Thanks to everyone for your lovely contributions, they are all arranged on my dining table right now, and I'm loving the sight!

That's all for now! It wont be long till the next update!
